England, I love you.
It’s wonderful here. The people have been great (granted we’ve been with family, so of course I like them) and the country is just beautiful.
I miss London already. For such a big, fast-paced city, it’s so clean and the air is wonderful - intoxicating, really. We walked through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens one day and it was so lovely, even though it was pouring with rain...

Blue Eyed Maid
The title of this post is also the name of the pub we went to tonight for fish and chips.
We set out on a walk around 4 this afternoon and ended up by accident (or fate) at the Thames. As soon as I realized we were nearing a river I started jumping up and down - no, I’m not making that up. I was beyond excited. We started walking across and we could see the city in front of us, the London...

UK!
I LOVE it here. It feels like Oregon, except with posh (and some not so posh) accents and less hipsters- which could be good. We’re going to a proper football match today, though I guess the team is kind of ‘dodgy,’ Millwall. should be quite an experience. Anita, the very kind and accommodating woman we’re staying with- my grandma’s cousin I think? I’m still...

Off to the Motherland
Our flight to London leaves Madrid at 7pm tonight.
I can’t tell you how excited I am to be in England. Aside from the fact that I don’t have to hope that people will speak English, I will also get to drink real beer. I don’t think I ever expressed the gravity of the beer situation in Spain. Their most popular beers were about as gross as Coor’s. It’s not like...

We saw the black paintings last night
The Prado Museum is huge. Let me just start there. Not only is it huge, there are so many chambers and it is so confusing. And there are so many things that you just have to see! There are paintings by Rafael, Velázquez , Reubens, Rembrandt (which I couldn’t find. I’m telling you… this place is huge), and, of course, Goya.
The black paintings were kept downstairs - I don’t...

Benefits to having an expired student ID
1. Getting into the Picasso Museum in Malaga for half the price!
2. Seeing the Guernica today for FREE.
The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía is probably the biggest museum I have ever been to. Honestly, I had no idea they had so many amazing things - I’m not ashamed to admit that I only wanted to go because I knew they had Picasso’s most famous painting, Guernica. But they...

In Madrid.
We seem to have arrived during a giant Labor protest. Puerta del Sol was full of thousands of people last night when we went to go get dinner. The hostel is pretty close to both the Prado and the Reina Sofia museums, as well as an observatory and a rather large botanical garden.
As for the hostel, it’s not as nice as the other ones we’ve stayed in but the location is pretty good. The...

Just checked in for our flight to London
Alright all you Brits, we’re heading your way!
Winston Churchill’s bunker, British Museum, Chatsworth House, my mom’s old stomping grounds, London Fashion Week…
Brand New is playing in Cardiff the day after we land… tempting…

Last few days in Málaga!
It’s Wednesday! Today is Miércoles Mexicanas (Mexican Wednesday) and there’s another Barcelona-Real Madrid match this evening. We only have two days of classes left, and Saturday we hop on a train to Madrid!
I’m really excited for Madrid. The Guernica is in Madrid and El Museo Reina Sofia, and the Prado Museum is also there. Originals of Goya, originals of Vasquez, Rafael…...

Diego took the heater from our room..
Mallory and I are sitting in our beds trying to keep warm, listening to the pride and prejudice soundtrack talking about how good Mr. Darcy looks walking through that pleasant English meadow at the end of the movie.
We’re losing it, folks.
I can barely type my fingers are so cold.
On another note, mass this morning was sooo cool! I could understand a lot of it, so that helped make it...

Hail Mary...
Mallory and I are going to Mass at noon. I’ve never been to any kind of catholic church, let alone one that is entirely in Spanish… let’s just pray that I don’t offend anyone of do something stupid.
They have services every hour on Sunday’s, which I find odd but also rather comforting since it means it will be a relatively short service. I’m going to assume I...

Sevilla!
We took a (rather large) bus to Sevilla this afternoon. The ride would have been nice had I not been so concerned for my life due to our driver’s lack of caution. At one point the bus was in three lanes (borderline four).
When we got here we walked along the river towards the old historic city center, which is just phenomenal. I immediately liked the vibe here more than the one I get in...

myownstufff asked: Hi! I'm from Málaga... I love my city... but it's true people are a little dirty. The problem is education, they are not aware. Their homes are very clean, but they don't feel the streets and the land as their own. Fortunately not everyone is this way.
Anonymous asked: Remember you are from Oregon where we care about our surroundings. Last time in Europe, I was amazed by all the graffiti as well as the garbage. Such a shame when the buildings and countryside are so incredibly beautiful.

Someone please help me understand
Spain is beautiful. The terrain, the climate, the buildings, the traces of history that lie around every corner, the people, the food. Let it be known that I do not dispute the beauty of the country, nor do I have any harsh words for the people. But there is filth everywhere, at least here in Malaga. Cigarette butts litter every sidewalk. It’s stone streets, squares, parks and alleys are...
